About
Remembeer lets you track and rate the beers you drink. No more trying to remember the name of that microbrew from last night, quickly check your log and see what you thought.
The Remembeer code is available as Open Source under the MIT license. See the download page for availability.
A bit of history… Remembeer was created as a useful way to learn more about Android development. The original idea came from a 2009 New Year’s Resolution. Back in those dark days when budgets were tight a Remembeer developer resolved to have 250 beers out at bars or less as a way to save money. The joke was that by September he could always switch to scotch and mixed drinks, only beer counted, and only beer purchased out.
The trouble is how do you maintain that count? Eventually a hack was devised. Using a text message, and a pre-defined template on the phone, he would send a text message to the Twitter 40404 number. This tweet was a direct message to Mycro, an MIT Media Lab project, which then took that data and combined it with Google Charts to create a pie chart and a running tally of all the beers consumed, well… recorded at least.
While this system worked, and the developer squeaked in under the resolution with a mere 112 beers out that year, it lacked a lot of the features and recording capabilities we have today in Remembeer. Needless to say we are all better off now.
